TAB Rail Road presents France’s first 100% digital, low-carbon terminal
The Astre network stands out for the wealth of know-how of its members. Among them, TAB Rail Road, renowned for its expertise in combined rail-road transport, recently presented the Terminal Ouest Provence in Miramas.

A 100% digital, low-carbon terminal
The Terminal Ouest Provence (TOP), located in the Clésud logistics zone between Miramas and Grans, close to the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille, occupies a strategic position at the heart of Provence’s logistics zones. Its unique features will optimise logistics flows and help to reduce the carbon footprint of freight transport.
This ambitious project is being carried out thanks to various grants and the partnership between Charmade and the Open Modal Group, who set up the company Terminal Ouest Provence (TOP) in 2018 to spearhead this initiative. The terminal will be operated in the long term by BTM, an operator specialising in multimodal transport.
Terminal features
Designed to meet the growing needs of combined road-rail transport, the TOP terminal covers an area of 14 hectares. It is equipped to handle four 850-metre trains simultaneously thanks to two handling yards, one equipped with a gantry crane, the other with reach stackers. Remarkably, all the handling equipment, as well as the road-rail shunting equipment, runs on electricity, reinforcing the site’s commitment to the environment.
The Terminal Ouest Provence in figures:
- 4 railway tracks of 900m
- 2 remote-controlled electric gantries
- 2 electric reach stackers
- A nearby CNG station (Clésud)
- 1 electric road-rail shunter
- 68,000 ITUs/year from opening date
- Storage capacity of 10,000m².
The TAB Rail Road initiative, which is perfectly in line with Astre’s NZI strategy, shows how the network’s members are working towards more sustainable and responsible logistics.

The carrier of the year 2023
On March 27th, Astre was present at the 35th carrier’s trophy ceremony in a “MAGICAL” place, the Parc des Princes, with more than 350 guests.
The programme included a private tour of the stadium, a cocktail party and, of course, the awards ceremony, with in particular the nomination of Transports Barbero, a member of the Astre Group, for the Carrier of the Year award.
